Simple Ways to Elevate Your Everyday Outfits Instantly

Looking effortlessly put-together isn’t always as simple as it seems,  but these styling tips will make your life easier.

An oversized crisp white shirt may seem like the most basic piece in a wardrobe, but for me, it’s a blank canvas waiting to be reimagined. Its versatility lies in how you choose to style it. On some days, I lean into a relaxed, slightly kitsch aesthetic, pairing it with blue barrel jeans and Kolhapuri sandals. On others, I might take a more experimental route, teaming it with a black dhoti, statement chandbalis, and even a pair of fluffy Hermès Orans for that unexpected twist.

What truly elevates everyday basics is the personal touch you bring to them. For me, that often comes from my cultural roots. Incorporating elements that feel authentic, whether it’s traditional jewellery or heritage textiles, adds depth and individuality to even the simplest outfits. It transforms something ordinary into something that feels intentional and expressive.

I also enjoy using accessories in unconventional ways. A silk scarf doesn’t always have to be worn around the neck; it can double up as a belt. A maang tikka can be styled with a vest and leather skirt, instantly creating a striking contrast between traditional and contemporary. These small styling shifts can dramatically change the overall look, proving that you don’t always need new clothes to create something fresh.

Denim, in particular, is a staple I constantly return to. Being a self-confessed “jeans person", I like experimenting with it by layering pieces that wouldn’t typically be paired together. Draping a Banarasi dupatta over flared denim and a white T-shirt, finished with a stack of jadau bangles, is one of my go-to looks. It reflects a fusion of old and new where inherited pieces find a place in modern silhouettes.

Ultimately, styling is about reinterpreting what you already own. It’s about finding new ways to wear familiar pieces and allowing your personality to come through. By mixing, matching, and occasionally breaking the rules, you can continuously reinvent your wardrobe without feeling the need to constantly add to it.
