Ananya Kapur is the Founder of Type Beauty Inc, the first makeup brand in the world to customize makeup for your skin type! The brand's products are Science Backed, Infused with Skincare, Inclusive, Vegan, Cruelty Free and Just Your TYPE!

What is your wellness philosophy?

My personal wellness philosophy is not just about enhancing external appearances but also about promoting inner healing and overall well-being. I always see to it that the makeup is specific to the needs of my skin. I put a huge emphasis on practicing a healthy lifestyle, since the kind of routine you follow shows on your skin. Therefore, I am conscious of my diet, daily water intake and exercise, tracking it religiously. I firmly believe that taking care of our skin is an essential part of our overall wellness journey, and Type Beauty Inc. aligns with my personal philosophy of promoting beauty from the inside out.

Your success mantra?

As the founder of Type Beauty Inc., my success mantra revolves around the core values of inclusivity and diversity. We believe that everyone deserves to feel beautiful and confident in their skin, regardless of their skin type or color. At Type Beauty, we prioritize inclusivity by representing as many skin types as possible through our product range. Our foundation comes in 24 shades, and our concealer comes in 12 shades, ensuring that we cater to a diverse range of skin tones.

We understand that the beauty industry has historically been exclusive and has only represented a narrow range of beauty standards. However, we aim to change that by prioritizing inclusivity and diversity in everything we do. Our success is not just measured by our revenue, but by the positive impact we have on our community. We strive to create well researched products until they reach the perfect quality benchmark. It must not only enhance an individual's natural beauty but also remedies all kinds of skin problems from within rather than just concealing it.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

If this is entrepreneurship based:

Everything has a lead time. By this I mean some launches, and products have been delayed because we miscalculated lead times. From this, I learned to always provide any supplier a buffer period when setting goals so that we are always prepared.

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

Find what works for you and discover your distinctive look! With so many skincare and makeup options, it can be difficult to find a style that defines and resonates with who you are and your comfort level. Female industry entrepreneurs, like myself, advise to try out several brands and products to see which ones are appropriate for your skin type and aesthetic preferences. Try out many cosmetic looks to discover the one that makes you feel attractive and confident. Moreover, we believe that every woman deserves to exude confidence and radiate beauty in her unique way. To this end, we encourage our clients to explore various makeup looks and find the one that resonates with their personality and makes them feel confident and beautiful.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

For me everything is customer centric. My greatest moments of pride always come from our customer reviews. I remember one in specific, the consumer in question was suffering from cystic acne that had caused severe underconfidence and made it difficult to leave the house, she left us a very long review, the gist of which was that our products had given her the confidence to step out of the house and face the world. To me, that is what it's all about. It's great to receive authentic reviews in prominent publications and from influencers, but to me, it's the consumer perspective that moves me and truly makes me feel proud. I’m just glad that type is doing good work and that what we are doing is making an impact on people's everyday lives.
