Celebrating the Doyenne: Mish Sen

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Mish Sen is a marketing consultant turned food blogger and content creator famous for her blog Eats with Mish.

What is your wellness philosophy?

My wellness philosophy is to do my best in small steps each day. I used to get very overwhelmed before and now I set small and doable goals for each day. It helps to proceed in a systematic way towards my goals and feel under control. Another part of my wellness philosophy is to manage my stress through positive thinking, exercise, and defining boundaries for myself. For example, I do not look at my phone as soon as I get up, I finish my morning routine and then look at my phone. By that time I am in my “work” mode and am able to take action on what is needed rather than feeling anxious just thinking about it!

Your success mantra?

Knowing my strengths as well as my needs and getting help where I need to. Continuous learning: I commit to learning core skills. For example, for me learning photography and video editing was very important and I am still evolving in those areas. Apart from that, I am constantly learning new things that I think is important to get to the next level, for example, new technology and keeping up with Instagram features and tools. Read relevant blogs in your field to keep on top of your game.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

A lesson I learned is in the realm of brand collaborations. Once, I started a collaboration as an influencer, with the aim of promoting a great product on my Instagram channel through video content but then it changed to becoming a content creator for this brand’s YouTube channel. so I learned through that experience that full clarity is needed before starting a collaboration so there are no surprises.

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

Believe in yourself! We are very conditioned by our families, society and our loved ones and a lot of our thinking process is often shaped by these important influences in our lives. I encourage everyone to think for themselves and start recognizing what your strengths are and developing it. Knowing one thing really well and excelling at it is much better than knowing 10 things somewhat well. Also listen to your gut! That takes a bit of practice as we usually ignore it. So next time, you feel your sixth sense is telling you something, pause and listen to it. I always do now and I’m glad that I do!

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

I feel so proud when I get messages saying that I made a difference is someone’s life- that someone is getting compliments on their cooking now when they never were considered a cook, or that someone is not afraid of the kitchen anymore because they find my recipes very easy to implement or when someone is now able to manage their own meals now being away and living alone in a different town.
