The all-new Disney Adventure sails from its Asian homeport, Singapore. The biggest Disney cruise liner marks a starry splash out at sea. Shilpi Madan gets a sneak peek on the pre view sail on the four-night cruise.
It’s the most magical place at sea.
Sailing on the mint-new Disney Adventure, from Singapore, made me tick off many bucket list experiences. The dreamy cruise – where the ship is the destination - easily surpasses my countless memorable experiences at Disney theme parks across the world.

Disney truly makes you feel like a queen, unlocking shiploads of happiness with smiling faces and efficient teams bringing in intuitive care during the cruise, and splashing out a mindboggling spread in menus across food, activities, shows, spa specials and more.
You’re never too old for Disney.
Here’s my pick of the five fabulous experiences on board at Disney Adventure:
Zip. Zap. Zoom.

Nothing beats this high-powered, edgy spin. I loved the Ironcycle Test Run at sea – it’s the first roller coaster on a Disney Cruise Line ship, and for me, beats all the crazy rollercoasters at the theme parks in Anaheim and Orlando. Back to the spin: this is the longest roller coaster at sea with a cool run of over 250 meters. Call it a maverick ride, split into two parts. The first spin was the warm-up, and the next one let me self-accelerate, full-throttle, no limits. A spot of speed demonry at sea is simply irresistible and this one was a surreal, crazy, heart-pounding experience zipping full-on in mad loops and sharp swerves, with the dizzying speed threatening to slam me into the sea. Being a die-hard Marvel fan, flying on Tony Stark’s latest Ironcycle prototype was the ultimate cool. It even features Stark’s virtual assistant F.R.I.D.A.Y. and is a part of Marvel Landing – that also brings in Pym Quantum Racers and Groot Galaxy Spin on the 17th deck of Disney Adventure. For me, the zip crowned the thrill of being in the Walt Disney Theatre with Robert Downey Jr. – the ship’s godparent – during the christening ceremony.
Tip: Keep combing the Navigator App to book your slots, remember to sit in front for this two-seater ride, and don’t get off the ship without experiencing the roller coaster!
It’s Raining Spas

I felt like a princess, dipping into the cups of luxury wellness at the golden Opulence Spa, and the Rainforest Spa - this one goes beyond the restorative, signature treatments. The post-massage experience gains hot footer momentum with the sea-tipped expansive relaxation areas. The snow-white hamam with sunshine bouncing off the full-length glass views of the unending sea engulfed me in a warm hug as I sat on thick, fluffy towels. The dry sauna with red-eyed embers in a huge crucible, worked like a charm, drawing away the tautness from my calves – you do have to walk a lot on the massive ship!

Completely alluring, the blue of the whirlpool spa was deeply inviting for a long, languorous dip. As I lowered myself into the bubbling water, it brought in delightfully tingling moments with humming jacuzzi beds and surprise rainforest showers. This was absolute luxury. I leaned back in the loungers, closing my eyes and allowing the swish of the warm water to lull me. Later, moving through the walkthrough experiential showers, I relaxed on the thermal loungers watching the waves lap lazily, while sipping juice. Honestly, the spa outing scores over the infinity pool and outdoor jacuzzis on the decks, as it lets you wear the bikini without meriting a tan. Full marks.
Tip: It’s best to get the day-pass (Mickey band) to move in and out of the spa any time your little heart desires, till 10 pm (though I could live here forever). Totally worth it.
Fire Up

Disney’s the coolest when it comes to springing surprises. I didn’t miss the lavish splash out of the grand Disney Parade on board because the wild pyrotechnics more than made up for it.

Disney Adventure brings in spectacular fireworks at sea – it’s the only cruise liner in the world to bring in this sparkle – in a jaw dropping format. The pool deck was heaving with excitement, amidst squeals and gasps, as Shah Rukh Khan’s deep voice played Mufasa in The Lion King run in pyrotechnics. Blazing fireworks in eye popping scarlet, jewelled blue, roaring whites and shimmying greens played out against the velvety star-studded sky as iconic songs from the eponymous Disney movie played out. It felt surreal, humming to Elton John, Hans Zimmerman under the endless dark sky that came alive in moments with the burst of loud sparkles, in the middle of nowhere. It felt magical, in true Disney style.
Tip: Net the best view from the 18th deck. Later make your way to the secluded recliners a level above towards the front of the ship. This is another prized, secret. Lapping up the uninterrupted view of the star galaxy in complete solitude. Then move to the bar by the infinity pool at the other end to soak up the sea breeze and the superb pours at the open bar.
Show time, folks.

The electric energy of the Broadway-style stage shows on board is simply unbeatable. My favourite is the grand musical, Remember. A colossal celebration of love, hope and the power of togetherness.
There is a medley of favourite characters in the fluid performances anchored by WALL-E – who anchors this musical during this dazzling Broadway-style show. The stunning play out by a starry cast – The Little Mermaid, Rapunzel, Aladdin, Coco and other specials from Disney and Pixar movies, bring in an unforgettable play of energy with seamlessly choreography, cascading bubbles and confetti, swishing dancers along the aisles in the theatre, and excited screams and endless claps. Disney music, ace production quality, and the full-throated laughter and smiles add to the magic of the entire experience.

I love glamour, speed and action, and the Marvel show on Disney Adventure wins hands down in terms of the adrenalin rush. Think Iron Man, Black Widow, Captain America, Spider-Man, Thor, Loki, Red Skull and more, battling it out on stage complete with punches, kicks, blows and special effects. With cool ziplines, smoke, acoustics and explosions rolled in for crazy impact. I was constantly turning my head with hundreds of others gathered in the Enchanted Garden, watching stupefied as Spider-Man virtually brachiated from one end, landing onto the stage in the middle of a full-blown battle.
Tip: Book your slots for the Disney shows on the Navigator App that also (thankfully) pops up reminders 15 minutes before the show starts in case you are lolling in the jacuzzi. No booking slots for the Avengers show as it’s in the open.
There’s something for everyone

Disney Adventure is the perfect destination for multigenerational holidays, girl gang outings, and couple getaways. Choose from a wealth of 2110 cabins and 31 cabin categories, with balcony-tipped stays and inward-facing rooms to catch the open-air shows live from your balcony. My cabin at the rear brought in beautiful sea views, and a vantage balcony to catch the live Moana show at Wayfarer’s. Dreamy sunsets, crooners at bars, impeccable room service and happy, smiling faces everywhere you go make the experience simply stellar. There are super-exclusive suites for serious Disney fans. Think the royal splash out with two bedrooms, a private deck, open-air jacuzzi, and even a personal butler-space in the luxury-laced Elsa Suite, and the intrigue-laced Jasmine suite with gilded trims and chandeliers.
Everyone loves freebies and Disney spoils you rotten. Ask for Mickey chocolate bars at any of the dining experiences. You get free soda at seven locations across decks, complimentary soft serves (Wheezy’s Freezies) and thin crusts (Pizza Planet) on the 17th deck, and 24x7 room service on the house (!!!). Pick up your free sailing badges, luggage tags, and your first-time cruise certificate from the Concierge, and your daily free charms and Disney bracelets (Diamonds and Wishes, Deck 7).
Sailing with Disney is an experience of a lifetime. Make sure you tick this one on your bucket list!!!
MUST KNOW, MUST DO

Remember to dine at Pixar (endless sea-tipped tables, Mickey waffles for breakfast, Mickey churros on your last breakfast on the cruise, and a jaw-dropping splash out of live stations).
At Navigator’s Club for a superb live-show experience, special character bonhomie at the table – loved the Mickey hugs! – and Animator’s Palate for the wild playout on screen of the character you sketch on your table mat with colouring sticks.

Rotational dining makes your dedicated servers move with you through the restaurants you choose to dine at: it’s a beautiful, intuitive edge when the server remembers you love your sips without ice and brings personalised touches to dishes. A special shout out to Jimmy and Felin, here!
Mike and Sulley’s wows with teppanyaki specials, the QSR formats in Ohana’s Grill (the best pulled pork burgers in the world!), Cosmic Kebabs for yum shawarmas, and Gramma Tala’s Kitchen for the delicious fragrant chicken rice with beef pepper. Mowgli’s Eatery panders to Indian taste buds with butter chicken, rajma chawal and tandoori chicken.
The cabin door is magnetic, and you can shop for stick-ons in Disney memorabilia to lend your room the personal touch. Pretty cool.
Book slots for first-in for merch purchase before the limited-edition collections sell out. There are Disney x Gucci specials, and cool shoulder plushes.
Watch movies any time you want at the cool Baymax cinema. Keep track of all activities and character meetings on Navigator App. The best part is you keep running into Disney characters including Chip n Dale, Snow White, Pluto, Goofy and more as you walk along the decks.
Link your credit card during the online check-in. You simply need your room key to purchase anything you desire wherever you are on the ship.
Disney photographers are trained to capture the candid moments as you move around with you and yours. Choose your pictures before you check out.
