As the wedding season is currently is full swing, most of us tend to face the inevitable – digestion problems. Wedding festivities are literally incomplete without fried food and alcohol. Let GlobalSpa suggest healthy remedies to protect your body’s digestive function.
Buttermilk or Lassi
Sour milk cream is beaten for half an hour at least so that the white bits of butter separates from milk. After adding cold water, the remaining liquid after removing the butter is buttermilk. Whereas, Streptococcus lactis is added to warm milk and stored for 6-8 hours to make lassi. Cumin powder or black salt when added to Buttermilk is an ideal way of improving digestion after a hearty lunch.
Kaffir Lime Leaves
Used extensively in South-Asian cuisine, kaffir lime leaves are different from regular lime leaves. The leaves come from kaffir lime tree or citrus hystrix and is considered one of the most aromatic leaves in the world. The organic components stimulate for a healthier digestive system. Minute kaffir lime leaves are used in soups, sauces due to their strong flavour that can overpower the main dish.
Lemongrass
Also known as citronella, lemongrass is used in Asian cuisine predominately Thai to promote sleep and increase immunity. Lemongrass tea has antioxidants that help detoxing the body from within by removing toxins from the system. Lemongrass keeps the digestion in check, sooths the stomach and has a cooling effect. The component citral helps in digestion of food. Lemongrass tea is mostly served post dinner.
Chia Seeds
Chia seeds have high nutrients, proteins and omega 3 fatty acids. Incorporating chia seeds in diet leads to slowing down of the digestion of glucose and regulating blood sugar levels. These seeds when soaked in water before consumption turns gelatinous and works as a prebiotic increasing the good bacteria in the body. Fibre is equally essential to maintain a healthy digestive system. Fibre with fat and protein leads top long and slow release of energy.
Sauerkraut
This is basically fermented cabbage. This superfood is often called as the powerhouse of nutrition. Sauerkraut is low in calories and is an excellent source of vitamins, minerals and iron. It has got a high fibre content and improves digestion in the body. This is excellent source of vitamin C, K and is also a great source of dietary fibre.
Avocado

Commonly known as the butter fruit, this stone fruit contains nearly 20 essential vitamins and minerals. If the avocado is soft then its great for slicing and can be a great condiment to a salad or sandwich. Harder avocados make for a great guacamole. Fibres present in avocados helps improve digestion. A cup of sliced avocado increases the fibre intake by 4.9 grams.
